Windows 7 expiring in January 2020

Matt from Rukuhia

Hiya Folks,

this is Matt Bentley, your local & loyal computer support technician. I've recently renamed my business from 'Waikato Home PC Support' to 'Bentley Home PC Support', in part because it's my name, and in part because the name carries connotations of esteem, riches, money, fame etc. None of which I actually have of course, but, it's always nice if people think I do ;)

Some of you may have noticed that Windows 7 is expiring in January 2020; what that means is that it will no longer receive security patches from Microsoft, which means it will be unsafe to use on the internet. I have set up a package deal where I will upgrade your Windows 7 computer to Windows 10 for $150. This includes:

(a) Checking the health of your hard drive.(b) Making a backup of the hard drive in case something goes wrong (I will keep this backup for 2 weeks just in case).
(c) Upgrading your computer to Windows 10 and installing the latest updates.
(d) Cleaning it up and disabling the Windows 10 'telemetry' (spyware).
(e) Changing settings so that it acts a bit more like Windows 7 and is more familiar.

This is mainly a drop-off service, though I can pick up depending on where you are. Please note that if you are running Windows 8, there is no need to upgrade immediately (though you can if you want to) - Windows 8 expires in 2023.

If you are running Windows Vista or Windows XP, you definitely shouldn't be using those on the internet (they expired ages ago) and should probably get a new computer. I'm happy to help with that, including selecting a new computer and transferring your data/programs to it.

So if you want to take advantage of the offer, please get in touch.

Cheers,
Matt

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

Derelict Tokanui Hospital site in line for a clean-up

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

Derelict Tokanui Hospital buildings will be demolished and contaminated land cleaned up so the site can be offered back to iwi.

The former psychiatric hospital, southeast of Te Awamutu, sits on land taken from Ngāti Maniapoto under the Public Works Act in 1910.
