Internet outages

The Editor from Te Kowhai Newsletter

I got in touch with UltraFast about the internet outages last week. They came back to me with the statement below.

"We unfortunately damaged a main Chorus copper cable on the 19th and 24th September and this most likely would have cut off broadband (ADSL or VDSL) for a number of properties. I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused residents.

Before undertaking any works we try and identify all existing services to avoid (e.g. power, water, sewage, telecoms) though we are not always successful. Sometimes services are not in the location expected as they have moved over time or, like the Chorus cable damaged on the 19th September, are not on any plans.

The civil build for Te Kowhai will be completed this week, so any digging from now on is minimal. Over the next couple of months we will be installing the primary fibre cables and activating the network. We’re anticipating Te Kowhai residents will be able to order fibre broadband services by early next year, though I’m hoping it will be as early as December."

If anyone would like to speak to UltraFast directly, Mike Ryan has asked that his details be passed on. Please drop me a line and I'll pass them on to you.

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?
