There's fiction, wine writers, storytelling, an open mic night, lit pub quiz, a local authors event, writing competition, a talk by a self-published author about her 65 books, blokes' book club, Witi Ihimaera evening, lit salon, children's and picture book authors etc. There's also workshops on scriptwriting, speculative fiction, writing children's fiction, poetry and memoir. Our annual Masquerade Ball on Saturday the 21st of August, 2021 at 7.30pm is a key fundraiser to help towards the rebuild of the theatre.
This will be a fabulous evening which features “The Malcolm Barr Big Band” to dance to, and some other fun events throughout the evening to keep you entertained.
There will be Auctions, Quick Fire Raffles and Spot Prizes for the Best Dressed Male and Female, Best Mask, Best Dancer, Best Handmade Mask and Most Unique Mask.
There will be a photographer taking photos of your amazing attire. (Please note that if you don't want your photo used for future advertising, please let us know)
You can purchase a photo for a fee, which also goes towards making this Building Renovation a reality.
There will be a light supper, catered for by CaterPlus.
The Bar will be open and while it is only public prices on the night (no club pricing that night) we all know our public prices are extremely reasonable compared to other venues.

Have you had any close shaves because of hazardous winter road conditions?
There were several crashes on Monday morning in the Waikato region as a result of icy conditions.
Black ice is incredibly difficult to spot for the average motorist and the AA recommends drivers pay attention to the weather conditions the night before setting out.
Temperatures below zero, valleys and dips in the road and shaded areas where the road won't warm up as quickly are all factors in black ice formation.
"You don't want to slam on your brakes if you do get onto ice and feel the vehicle starting to slide. That's actually likely to make the vehicle go more out of control," AA spokesman Dylan Thomsen said.
Multiple precautions are taken by Waka Kotahi (NZTA) to improve the safety during the winter.
The agency contracts Downer workers to drive hundreds of kilometres along stretches to detect wet patches of road as they are freezing.
Calcium Magnesium Acetate (CMA) is sprayed on roads and bridges in very cold areas to stop ice from forming. The chemical acts by lowering the freezing temperature of the water.
Accidents are also mitigated when asphalt is sprinkled on at-risk stretches of road.
