Hi Booklovers!

We have a new venue – Maramarua on SH 2. This time of the year we would usually be in Waikino but their hall is not available because of renovations so I've managed to find a new venue at Maramarua. We opened yesterday, Saturday 5th and will be here until Sunday 13th.

The hall at Maramarua is on a little hill in front of the fire station. It is on the south side of SH2. If you are coming up SH27, or from Paeroa or Tauranga, as you pass the general store you can see it in the distance on top of the hill so slow down to catch the entrance.

I can't put my little truck (Little Toot) at the entrance as this will hinder fire station personnel arriving on a callout so it will be parked across the road – the best we can do.

Our usual opening hours are 9am – 6pm.

The hall hire was only agreed last weekend, too late to advertise in the local papers, but it will be in this week so that should bring a few more people out. The weather has been so hot this week, regularly 30 degrees, so packing and moving into the hall (using the large and small trucks) has been extremely tiring. However we are now in and all set up so please come and check out our books.

There are several cafes here at Maramarua, including the pub which serves meals. We will probably try out the pub for dinner tonight. It's too hot to cook after a long day looking after books – well that's my excuse if I needed one!!

My friend Jennifer is up here with me for this event and maybe for Eureka next month.

You may notice changes in the way some books are priced. I have been buying in some books for those very popular authors who have their own boxes. Unfortunately this means there are more yellow stickers in these boxes than previously.

My friend Rod's garden art should arrive later today. He has his usual wind wands but has introduced a new range of crystal wands which reflect the sun and will look lovely in the garden.

Thanks to all of you who are doing the Covid-19 things endeavouring to keep us all safe. We have the usual Covid sign in forms and the user app pictures on a table inside the hall.

In my next newsletter I will provide the Eureka book fair dates for 2022 for you to diarise.

Best wishes
Trudi

Hi everyone,
Hokitika has been named the most welcoming town in NZ in Booking.com's 10th annual Traveller Review Awards.
Would be keen to hear from those who live there or who have visited whether they think the town really is exceptionally friendly. What makes it a welcoming place, or otherwise? Were there any cafes, restaurants, shops or other places you received a particularly warm welcome?
Lake Tekapo and Oamaru came in second and third place respectively, followed by Cambridge, Picton, Invercargill, Martinborough, Kerikeri and Palmerston North. Would also love to hear from you if you have thoughts on these places. Please include 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts?
