We've had a couple of questions after it appears some people have got their wires crossed after reading media reports from around the country. Unfortunately it's easy for incorrect info to be shared around, which causes needless concern for people. If you have any queries about your water supply please call us on 838 6699.
Our Waters Unit Manager Maire Porter says we have shut down our Eastern Bulk Water Main as a precaution only as rising river levels may affect a repair being undertaken on the river bank immediately beside the main.
“We have shut down this main several times in recent weeks to protect the repair site. This is a prudent approach and residents can rest assured their water is fine.
“We are currently supplying the city through the Western Bulk Main only, which means there may be water pressure fluctuations and reduced water supply to parts of Hamilton, particularly elevated areas in the Hillcrest area in the next few days, but this has no effect on the quality of our water,” Mrs Porter says.

Whether they do open or not is up to the business owner.
Council carried out extensive community consultation to find out what people wanted. During the consultation period, from 14 December to 7 February, 1268 submissions were received with 51% (656) in favour of shops being able to open. The majority opposed to the policy cited religious reasons, preserving our community culture or to make sure workers had a break.
Councillors acknowledged that the submissions were very evenly split. The views of those opposing the policy were discussed in detail as well as the benefits of giving shop owners the choice to open.
The policy will ensure that individual business owners can make their own choice as well as ensuring a consistent approach across the district.

Severe road damage, slips and flooding have dominated Council staff’s workloads since the cyclone hit the area last week.
And it's not over yet.
A low in the Tasman Sea is forecast to bring heavy rain to an already sodden North Island on Wednesday.
Cyclone Cook is due to bear down on the east coast of New Zealand from the Pacific later in the week.
Please bear in mind that normally simple service requests may take longer than usual as teams concentrate on assessment and repair of damaged roads, clearing slips and unblocking drains overwhelmed by flood waters.
River Road, Tuakau
Council staff have been working hard to re-open roads like River Road in Tuakau, which was closed by a slip.
Koheroa Rd
Ex-Cyclone Debbie has caused more damage to Koheroa Road at Mercer, which is closed between the intersections of Kellyville Road and Glass Road.
