All non-essential businesses were required to shut their doors once the coronavirus lockdown came into effect, with only supermarkets and pharmacies among the few still trading.
However, the government has made changes to the essential services list, allowing a number of retailers the opportunity to open their doors and sell select products they deemed essential to life in New Zealand. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) announced the changes on Tuesday.
Here's a link with an update of which shops will be open for the remainder of lockdown and what you can purchase from them.

Now is a great time to focus on your garden. Whether you have a large garden or a small balcony, growing vegetables is a great way to keep busy and enjoy the fruits (or vegetables) of your labour.

as some of you may have heard, the government last week advised that non-daily publications, such as community newspapers, are not considered essential services under the news and media designation during the Alert Level 4 lockdown. Unfortunately That means that we won’t be able to print and deliver our your paper over the remaining period of the lockdown. However, we will be putting all important local news/updates on our Neighbourly page during the period.

Waikato people struggling to get food and other necessities during lockdown now have a number to call.
Freephone 0800 800 405 was set up by the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group for people struggling to get food, groceries, medication or other household goods and services.
The group is not yet sure how big the need is, and say the 0800 number doesn't replace other Government helplines.

With normal daily driving the alternator has time to charge the battery each day so it doesn't cause issues but with our cars sitting in the garage for several days now is a good time to go out and see if it starts ok, before you need it in a hurry. After starting it let it idle for 5 minutes to recover what you have drained out of it from the start. If it starts slower than normal leave it idling for 15-20 minutes to charge the battery a bit more.
