We would really appreciate if drivers using the unsealed portions of Wilkie and Humphries Street, Greytown reduce their speed.....less speed, less dust. One simple way is to check in rear vision mirrors to see the amount of dust you are creating.
We note that a lot of vehicles, particularly the train commuter traffic originate from Wood, Kuratawhiti, Udy [including Homestead Lane] and North Streets. We also have a variety of agricultural machinery, carriers, tradespeople and locals who although from the rural sector drive their vehicles at speed and appear unaware of the dust they create.
The drivers cover a range of ages of both sexes. Of particular concern are those driving at speed with young children. We recognise many of the drivers and vehicles when we visit the supermarket and shops in Greytown. We appreciate that you are probably unaware of the issues you are causing but we would be grateful for your assistance.
Many people ask why only part of Wilkie Street is sealed. The reason behind this is when the lifestyle subdivision was created on Wood/Wilkie Street the developer was asked to contribute half of the cost of sealing Wilkie Street along the frontage of the subdivision. As neighbours we told by the then SWDC Roading Engineer that the remainder of Wilkie Street would be sealed by the council. This was back in the early 2000's.
Driving past our property on the corner of Wilkie/Humphries Streets you will notice the trees are covered in a thick layer of dust.
For those who may ask what is the problem....... well it is like a like a person standing in a room full of cigarette smokers.
Thank you for reading this and we hope we may see less speed, less dust.

It could be a neighbour who donates time to a sports team in your neighbourhood or someone who brings your bins up the driveway every week. Maybe they’re just really unique; the neighbour who drives that bright pink car or skateboards with the kids to school each day.
Tell us why your neighbour is awesome and you could win one of four $250 Prezzy® cards (plus one for your Awesome Neighbour).
