Should Dunedin's inner-city freedom camping site become permanent?
The Thomas Burns site, nestled between the city’s railway station and industrial area, was trialled as a freedom camping site over the past two summers to take pressure off popular but overcrowded coastal camping sites.
Those sites, Warrington and Ocean View, recorded a reduction of 27 per cent and 50 per cent respectively, despite an increase in visitor numbers. Complaints about those sites also dropped by more than half, with infringement notices also dropping.
The Dunedin City Council is now seeking feedback on whether the site should be made permanent. What do you think? Read more here and tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

Buses can be a relaxing way to get home if you have a seat and enough space. However, it can be off-putting when someone is taking a phone call next to you.
