Urgent alert for Dunedin - flooding causes chaos

State Highway One in Otago has been closed by flooding, while Dunedin locals have been asked to bring a shovel and help fill sandbags.

- SH1 is closed south of Milton after flooding at Tokomairiro River.
- Dunedin residents urged to cut back on showers and use of washing machines to ease pressure on wastewater systems, and sandbags are being made available, with a call for volunteers to help fill them.
- Continued rain is putting pressure on wastewater pipes and pumping stations around the waterlogged city.
- Mosgiel and South Dunedin residents concerned over flooding or who have had issues before can collect sandbags from various sites, including Memorial Park and Hotel Taieri car park, Mosgiel, and Ice Stadium car park, Dunedin.
