In her 85th year, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at Taranaki Base Hospital, on Monday 24th April 2023. Most loved wife, and best friend of John Powell, for 56 years. Loved mother, and mother-in-law of Scott and Kayla Powell, Andrea and Iain Hunt, and sons Peter-John, Stephen and Grant Jury. Loved Nana of Kristina and Zane Hunt, Archie and Fraser Powell and all her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and aids at Taranaki Base for the wonderful care they gave Miriam during her stay there. In accordance with Miriam’s wishes, a private cremation service has been held.

In Queenstown; aged 90 years. Agricultural scientist who, as a student, had a world-first response of peas to molybdenum. The potash industry took him to Paris and vineyards in the 50s where he learned about food and wine. In Australia he reported on agricultural companies and worked for the First Australians for the Federal Govt. CEO of the NZ Meat Industry 1974-1990, unconventionally involving unions in decisions. Living in Queenstown for over 30 years, he was a volunteer mentor for small businesses. He skied, tramped and entertained many. A private cremation been held. Peacefully at Sevenoaks Hospital, Paraparaumu, on his 103rd birthday, 22nd April 2023. Loved husband of the late Nell and Eileen. Loving father of Lyn and Graham Bellamy, Jan and the late Ian Lucas, and Ken and Jenny Shirley. Special grandfather of 8, great-grandfather of 12 and great-great-grandfather of 3. On April 23, 2023, peacefully at Summerset-on-Cavendish Aged Care. Dearly loved wife of the late Jim and much loved mother of Jay, Gina and Terry, and loved mother-in-law of Joe and Deb. Loved grandmother of Kelly and Clare, and great-grandmother of Caleb, Nathaniel, Ivy Rose and Elliot. Loved half-sister of John and Diane Hobson. In her 97th year. Garth passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023, aged 90 years, at the Wyndham Rest Home. Garth is the only son of Bryce* and Amelia* Ritchie and brother to Merle and Rod* Bruce. Garth is the beloved father and father-in-law to Gail and Greg Poole, Raymond and Debbie Ritchie, Jannette and James Cochrane, and Maria and Bazil Ferreira. Granddad of 15 and Great-Granddad of 19. As per his wishes, a private cremation has already been held in Invercargill. To celebrate Garth’s life, a service will be held at the Bannockburn Hall on Friday, May 26, at 1.00pm, followed by afternoon tea, drinks and yarns at the Bannockburn Bowling Club. Garth will be laid to rest in the Nevis Cemetery in the Nevis Valley on Saturday, May 27 at 11.00am, where we can have a wee nip for his birthday and say our final farewells. We know Garth will be enjoying a few whiskeys, lawn bowls and duck shooting with all his good mates who have already passed before him. Loved son of the late Jim and Margaret Perry and beloved brother of Barbara Woodcock; Brian and Hilda (Vancouver); John and Kerri (Melbourne); and Mark and Chris. The fight was long and hard fought with courage, dignity and hope. Another marathon however this one he couldn’t finish. Rob died at home with family peaceful and quietly as he wished on April 23, 2023. In his 75th year. A loyal and supportive husband to Shona for 53 years, father of Loren and Dougal, father in law of David, and grandfather of Caleb, Bill, Emma and Mark who were all his pride and joy. Grateful thanks for all the ongoing and generous support from the Queenstown Cancer Society, Southland Hospice team and Queenstown District Nurses. Your help made coping through these last three and a half years more bearable. Rob’s request was for no funeral, however donations can be made to Hospice Southland, Queenstown Cancer Society and the District Nurses social fund.
