Unexpectedly aged 54, on April 30, 2023, in Christchurch Hospital with family and friends at his side. Loved father of Jamie-Lee and Vincent and family. Loved Son of Brian*, Pat*, and Dorothy. Loved Brother of Kim* and Michael, Jackie and Stephen, Leanne and Anau, Richard and Sandy, and Bronwyn and families. A private family cremation has been held.

NEWPORT, Nolan Kingsley

Passed away at home, in his sleep, peacefully but unexpectedly, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, aged 83 years. The loved son of Ada. A devoted husband and dearly loved soulmate of Beryl. Dedicated father and father-in-law to Norm and Lucie, Sharon and Alastair, Bridget and Will, and Tim and Randy. Treasured by all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dear brother to Trevor. A private Funeral and farewell has been held to celebrate his life, and Nolan now rests at the Hawera Cemetery.

BUCKLAND, Stanley George

Born 21st October 1937, passed 2nd May 2023, aged 85. Beloved husband of the late Suellen Buckland. Cherished partner to Barbara Campbell. Dearly loved dad of Raymond and Helena, Patricia, Craig, Malcolm and Adelle, Christina and Lance, and Steven. Much loved Grandad and great-Grandad to all his grandchildren. A private funeral was held for Stanley on Saturday 6th May 2023, it was filled with tears, love and laughter. A huge thank you to Elizabeth R Rest Home Stratford for the fantastic care, love and support you have shown dad through his stay, we could not have asked for better care while dad was waiting for his next journey. A very special thank you to Sapphire, Julie, Keisha, Wendy, and Sylvia, you are all amazing caregivers, we thank you for that extra love and support you gave to our dad so very appreciated.
Fly high and rest with mum.

McKAY, Margaret Mary

Passed away peacefully at Waikari Hospital on Monday, May 8, 2023, surrounded by her family aged 90 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Donny. Loved Mother and Mother-in-law of Annette and John Sjoberg, Marie and David Black and Rod and Diane. Much loved Nana of Mark and Odelia, Tim and Donna, Hannah and Luke, Rachael and Dave, Karen and Brett, Sandi and Phil, Scott and Katie, Kimberley and Andrew and Great-Nana of 14. A dearly loved sister and sister-in-law and aunty to her nieces and nephews.
Rest in Peace
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Friends of Waikari Hospital. A Requiem Mass for Margaret will be celebrated at St Raphael’s Church, Hawarden on Tuesday, May 16, at 11.00am, followed by interment at the Waikari Cemetery. Loved and treasured Nana of her 15 granchildren, her 26 great-grandchildren, and her 2 great-great-grandchildren. A loved sister and aunty to many. TURNER, Austin Thomas Stanley (Tom)

Passed away peacefully on 10th May 2023, aged 92 years. Loving husband to DiAnne and formerly the late Joyce (nee Thompson). Much loved Dad to Garry, Grant and Jeff, and their wives and partners. Stepfather to Shannon. Loving Pop to all his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at the Greenwood Chapel, Hamilton Park Cemetery, 395 Morrinsville Road, Newstead, on Tuesday 16th May at 1.30pm.

van der LOOY, Antonius Cornelis (Tony)

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, peacefully at Christchurch Hospital, aged 82 years. Former husband of Shirley, loved Dad and father-in-law of Michael (deceased), Debbie and Jerry, Antonia and Stephen, David and Mimi, and Adam, loving Opa to his 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, dear friend of Bernice, respected uncle, teammate, neighbour, and friend to many. A special thanks to the excellent carers who helped Tony keep his independence for so long. Messages may be addressed to The Family of the late Tony van der Looy, c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. On May 7, 2023, passed peacefully at Charles Upham Hospital. Dearly loved wife of the late Allen. GALBREATH, Alan Christopher(Chris)

On 9th May 2023 Chris passed away peacefully with long standing friends Bill & Louise, niece Tanya and nephew Asti at his side. Aged 73 years. Dearly loved husband of the late Hiroko Sakakibara. In his last few weeks, despite being in hospital, Chris was able to find delight in talking with his 8 much loved nephews and nieces around the world, and helping them reconnect with each other. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is now reunited with his siblings and parents. A funeral service to remember Chris’ life will be held in The White Rose Chapel, 75 Cook Street, Hamilton, on Monday 15th May at 9.00am, followed by a private cremation. FLETCHER, Janice Mary

Passed away peacefully 9 May 2023. Daughter of Len & June (dec) and beloved sister of Kevin, Lynne, Wendy and Chris. Sister-in-law of Dave and Bridgitte (dec). Loving and much loved mother and mother-in-law of Elizabeth and Nikita, and Will and Tori. Doting grandmother of William, Fletcher and Elsie Mae. As per her wishes Jan has been cremated and her ashes will be scattered off Scorching Bay. A private celebration will be held on Saturday 13 May. Thank you to everyone who loved and cared for Jan. (Formerly of Nelson Creek, Edendale, Stoke and Gore). Elvie passed away peacefully at Ribbonwood Country Home, Tapanui, on Monday, May 8, 2023, aged 84 years. Much loved Mum and mother-in-law of Sharyn and Dexter Nind (Waitane), Judy and John Stiven (Tapanui), Donna and Barrie Andrews (Timaru), and Debbie and Steve Bradley (Tapanui). A loved fun Nana of Adam, Kristy, Rebecca and Amy Nind, David and Scott Stiven, Kate Thompson and the late Lee Stiven, Michael and Hayden Andrews, Shaun, Danae and Ryan Bradley and their partners. Treasured Grannie Elvie of her 13 great-grandchildren. Loved daughter of Fred* and Alva* Butcher (Ngahere), and sister of Noeline* and Richard Mahauariki (Harihari), Bev and Terry* Hogg (Rangiora), Pam and John Murphy (Richmond) and Sue and Kevin Neame (Brisbane). Loved one-of-a-kind aunty of her nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held on Mother’s Day to celebrate Elvie’s life. Her family would like to thank the staff at Ribbonwood for their care.

BRENTON, Margaret Kathleen

Passed away peacefully on Sunday 7 May 2023. Dearly loved wife of the late Kelvyn and devoted mother to Grant and mother-in-law of Debbie. Beloved nana of Emma, Ryan and Jess and great-nana to Noah and Isla. Margaret’s gentle personality was loved and cherished by all who knew her. The family would particularly like to thank her friends for all their generous affection and the caregivers and staff of Malvina Major Retirement Village who have made Margaret’s life so much easier over the last 9 years with their kind and loving support. Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Margaret at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 169 Main Road, Tawa on Thursday 18 May, commencing at 11.00am, thereafter private cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to the St Vincent de Paul Society (Porirua Branch) would be appreciated and may be left at the Mass.

Peacefully at Timaru Hospital, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, aged 89 years, surrounded by his loving family. Dearly loved husband and friend of Jan for the last 64 years. Much loved and sorely missed father and father-in-law of Vicki, Maree and Barry, Mark and Julie. Special grandad of Hannah and partner Glen, Beau, Matthew, and Andrew, and great-granddad Bobby of Zoe, and Liam. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Cliff and the late Bev, the late Hank and Carol, the late Peter, Margaret and the late Don, and the late Jean. Loved uncle of all nieces and nephews. Lyn passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her loving family, after a short illness. Dearly loved wife of Garry, and cherished mother of Tony, and Duncan and their families. Special thanks to the Nelson Tasman Hospice and the chemotherapy nurses who cared for Lyn during her treatment. A private cremation service has been held.
