Centaurus Combined Probus

Lynley from Hillsborough

Next Meeting 2pm, Tuesday 4th February,
Cashmere Club, 50 Colombo St (Sth)

Well, January is almost over and the new year is truly underway! Is it time to take some new steps? Are you retired or semi-retired, perhaps feeling a bit lonely and looking for the opportunity to meet new people and try new things?

The Centaurus Combined Probus Club offers the opportunity for men and women to meet in a friendly environment. The group meets monthly at the Cashmere Club. (You do not need to be a Cashmere Club member to attend.) The Centaurus group has members from Redcliffs to Halswell as well as from across town. During the month a variety of activities are organised. Some are regular, such as the walking group, Mahjon, 10-pin bowling etc, and a dinner night at a local restaurant, and others are one-off events eg Court theatre, flower nursery tour.

The guest speaker at our next meeting is Hayley from Peacock Projects who offers assistance with clearing out and downsizing your possessions prior to moving, and helping with presenting your home for sale. This should be a very interesting talk and will be relevant to many of us!

New members are very welcome. Just show up! The first 3 visits are free. If you would like to become a member, the year's subscription is $30.00. Afternoon tea is $2.

The next meeting is Tuesday, 4th February at 2pm. It is recommended that you arrive 15-20 mins early.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

Addictive Eaters Anonymous

The Team from Addictive Eaters Anonymous - Christchurch

After ten years of depression, my life had hit rock bottom

I remember being ‘different’ around food for most of my life. This included things such as being the person who had two cream buns at morning tea when everyone else had one; eating icing sugar by the spoonful directly from the packet; and being the family member who went into the kitchen after dinner to eat the leftovers. There are numerous other examples – too many to list. I could overeat anything. If I couldn’t get my preferred favourites (e.g. chocolate), I’d be eating the vegetables.
