Fireworks to light up New Brighton skies
Tens of thousands of people are expected to line Christchurch's New Brighton Beach on Friday to watch the annual fireworks spectacular.
People are being encouraged to walk, cycle or bus to New Brighton and people busing to the event will be able to get a free ride home (the last bus leaves New Brighton at 11.15pm).
Tinstletown-themed entertainment and food trucks will operate in New Brighton Mall from 6pm, before the fireworks start at 9pm.
Music accompanying the fireworks will be live-streamed on 92.1 MoreFM.
If the weather is unsuitable for fireworks, the event will be postponed to Saturday.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
