Riccarton Rd roadworks to pause over Christmas
Upgrades to the section of Riccarton Rd, which includes the busy shopping strip between Harakeke and Matipo streets, will be put on hold for six weeks from December 2.
The works are the second stage of an upgrade for Riccarton Rd. The first stage, at the Hagley Park end of the road, crippled businesses. Both stages will cost $18.4 million.
Stage two works started in January. A tree-planted median strip will be added between Clarence and Matipo streets, road markings will give buses priority over cars, water pipes which are nearly a century old will be replaced, and the deteriorating road will be resurfaced. Parking will be removed to allow for the new road layout.
Poll: If we want to reduce speeding, what do you think actually changes driver behaviour? π»π¨π
In the Post's article on speeding penalties, the question is asked whether speeding fines are truly about road safety, or are they just a way to boost revenue for the Crown?
What do you think? Should speeding motorists receive speeding fines or demerit points?
-
35.4% The sting of a fine (Money talks!)
-
64.6% The threat of demerit points (Nobody wants to lose their license!)

How much does it cost to join AEA?
There are no dues or fees for joining AEA or attending AEA meetings. We are self-supporting through our own voluntary contributions. At some point during each meeting we pass the basket to help cover expenses, such as the cost of rent and literature. Members are not obliged to contribute, but we usually do so to the extent we are able.
