Hi neighbours,

Plastic supermarket bags and Tetra Pak cartons will no longer be accepted in Christchurch's kerbside recycling bin. The City Council has said it is not in a position to accept the items in the yellow bins. Click here to read more about this.

These items now have to go in the red rubbish bin, however plastic bags can be dropped off at special recycling bins at supermarkets. Visit ccc.govt.nz for a full list of what can be recycled.

Poll: Should New Zealand take in 1500 refugees? Is it enough?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The annual refugee quota will lift from 1000 to 1500 by July 2020, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced this week. Before 2016 the refugee quota sat static at 750 for 30 years, well behind many other western nations. The National Government then raised it to 1000. Is it enough?

A dog owner who believes all dogs in moving vehicles should be restrained is applauding new animal welfare regulations coming into force soon.

From next month, the regulations can mean fines for dog owners who don't have their pooches restrained on moving vehicles. Dogs on the back of a truck, trailer or ute, travelling on a public road, had to be tied up with a leash or rope, if not in a cage or crate.

Those caught breaking that law could be fined up to $900 under new Animal Welfare Regulations from next month. Read more from Stuff here

Neighbours report being regularly kept awake on weekend nights due to the noise of boy racers on the nearby central city avenues, including Harper Ave, saying a group was racing up and down Fendalton Rd on the Saturday night until about 4am.

Canterbury road policing manager Inspector Ash Tabb said that while Fendalton Rd was not usually a hot-spot for boy racers, it was a closely-watched issue in the city.

“Canterbury police have a dedicated team which liaises with the car enthusiasts group, and uses education and enforcement intervention to change behaviour,” he said.
