Big road changes proposed for busy ‘weird’ Church Corner area
With more than 100 crashes at a busy Christchurch hub over the last 10 years, a raft of safety improvements have been planned for the area.
Church Corner in Upper Riccarton is home to schools, bus stops, the Bush Inn Centre, a supermarket and Christchurch’s so-called ‘China Town Market’ - all located where main roads intersect.
Christchurch City Council released its report with artist’s impressions (see below) of plans to make the area safer for commuters and pedestrians.
The proposals - which are open for public consultation, include vehicle access from Main South Rd onto Riccarton Rd being removed entirely as the road becomes one westbound lane.

After ten years of depression, my life had hit rock bottom
I remember being ‘different’ around food for most of my life. This included things such as being the person who had two cream buns at morning tea when everyone else had one; eating icing sugar by the spoonful directly from the packet; and being the family member who went into the kitchen after dinner to eat the leftovers. There are numerous other examples – too many to list. I could overeat anything. If I couldn’t get my preferred favourites (e.g. chocolate), I’d be eating the vegetables.
