The move comes after much public debate on the appropriateness of firearms being brought into schools, including when soldiers taught children as young as nine how to assemble and shoot assault rifles at a leadership exercise in Palmerston North last year. Though we are still to pass the specific recommendations; this overview of what, where and who we are looking to fund by area, type and sector. It makes a great deal of difference to many groups that we are able to support them, even in quite small ways sometimes.
A lot of hard work goes into this by our board support team from both a Community Development and a Sports & Recreation perspective- we thank them for that work.
Remaining funds will be used over the year to support Board projects such as Celebrate Bishopdale and Culture Galore. The balance will become the Discretionary Response Fund which will be used during the year to support Youth Development and other local projects
