Christchurch souvenir shop made just $21 last week
Hey neighbours,
A scarf, a pair of gloves and a bag of lollies. That was all Jackie Qiu sold at her Christchurch souvenir shop last week.
The three sales amounted to $21.19 (scarf $10; gloves $5; lollies $6.19 down from $6.99). A normal winter week would see her sell $2000 to $3000 of stock, but most of Qiu’s customers are international tourists, reduced to a trickle since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sales are down more than 90 per cent.
“I still need to pay rent, and then I still need to pay mortgage, “ she said.

Poll: If we want to reduce speeding, what do you think actually changes driver behaviour? 🛻🚨🚓
In the Post's article on speeding penalties, the question is asked whether speeding fines are truly about road safety, or are they just a way to boost revenue for the Crown?
What do you think? Should speeding motorists receive speeding fines or demerit points?
-
0% The sting of a fine (Money talks!)
-
0% The threat of demerit points (Nobody wants to lose their license!)
