The council is working through changes to the district plan to allow for more housing intensification across the city, following a Government directive. It went out to public consultation earlier this year on a plan to allow six-storey (22m) buildings within 600m of main shopping areas in Hornby, Papanui, and Riccarton - a move that was opposed by residents’ associations.
But last week staff informed councillors, in a memo, that they would instead be recommending 10-storey buildings, 32m high, within the three main shopping areas. It was also recommending 22m-high buildings, 800m from the edge of those main shopping areas.

*CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said 32m high buildings were proposed within 800m of the main shopping areas in Hornby, Papanui and Riccarton. Buildings of that height are allowed within those main shopping areas and 22m is proposed 800m out from the edge of those shopping areas. (Amended 5.24pm, August 30, 2023)

My loss your gain. Good all around boot cost me $300.
The Apache is a mid cut, waterproof boot, with a hyper Grip textured outsole. The HyperGrip rubber composite provides excellent traction on both wet and dry surfaces, meaning you're less likely to slip and scare the deer. The well'built and secure sole will be light and sturdy as you stalk through the bush.
With waterproof treated leather, combined with the Thinsulate inside: your feet will stay warm and dry all weekend.

It's actually only $60.76 /fn !! That's a $1020 pa “HOLE”. (Here's the maths.)
Existing Thresholds
First $14,000 @ 10.5% =$1470
Then $34,000 (to $48,000) @ 17.5% =$5950
Then $12,000 (to $60,000) @ 30% = $3600
Total Tax paid each =$11,020
National's, proposal
First $15,600 @ 10.5% =$1638
Then $37,900 (to $53,500) @ 17.5% = $6632
Then $6500 (to $60,000) @ 30% = $1950
Total Tax paid each =$10,220
ACTUAL SAVINGS =$800PA (each $30.76/fortnight) or $61.53/fn for a couple - NOT $100
“A superannuant couple ($22,869ea X 2) up to $26 boost “ It's ACTUALLY only $8.61 /fn !! That's a $452 pa “HOLE” !

Then $8869 @ 17.5% =$1552
Total Tax paid each =$3022
National's, proposal
First $15,600 @ 10.5% =$1638

Total Tax paid each =$2910
ACTUAL SAVINGS =$112 PA (each $4.30/fortnight) or $8.61/fn for a couple. NOT $26.
When you think about the cuts (austerity) that will be needed. It's actually pretty underwhelming and insulting.

WanderSearch Canterbury supports vulnerable individuals who are at risk of going missing to live healthy, active lifestyles, in the communities they love.
We support vulnerable individuals who are at risk of going missing by supplying radio frequency devices that can be worn by the individual and allow them to be found quickly by NZ Police and Land Search and Rescue, should they go missing.
We work with all age groups and conditions e.g. dementia, autism and brain injury to name a few. A device provides peace of mind for the individual and their families that should they go missing there are methods to assist in locating them quickly.
WanderSearch Canterbury strongly believes that income should not be a barrier to receiving this vital support which is why we supply devices on a loan basis.
You can learn more about our devices here: www.wandersearch.nz...
