Add a few rainfalls… View moreThe real issue is not the seal on the top, which show up as 'pot holes', but more the foundations underneath. The foundations move under the weight and speed of the vehicles, which we see as cracks on the surface, which due to more heavy truck end up as being potholes. Add a few rainfalls filling the cracks, Bingo!! potholes.
The foundation moving causes the top seal to crack and no amount of patching up potholes will work for any length of time as the surface now has a weakness. Eventually, the road has to be reconstructed with new foundations.
The GVT and councils expect to reseal the top layer as it will wear out, but once the foundation ceases to be solid, the top will continue to crack and potholes become a major problem for ratepayers.
Most of this is due to allowing Heavy Truck 20% heavier to use roads that were not built for them and using efficiency and cost savings to justify the change. This produced 'UNEXPECTED CONSEQUENCES'
The Gvt has to give Transport Companies a return on their investment $$$ for their political backing.
The GVT is now working on SPEED for more EFFICIENCIES and 'UNEXPECTED CONSEQUENCES' should not be unexpected this time.
"SPEED KILLs" so expect it to kill more even on motorways, especially Urban motorways.
This is my opinion backed up with obvious examples.

Cat Rikihana (Ngai Tahu) like many financial mentors around Aotearoa, works with individuals, groups and whānau to successfully navigate financial stress and hardship. Mentors work alongside whānau to increase confidence and skills in personal money management and advocate with and for clients. Cat enjoys delivering online and face-to-face workshops which provide opportunities to normalise money conversations and encourages people to make time to consider their financial well-being.
Cat is also an independent financial well-being coach, educator and indigenous life coach at Restore Wellness Network. She is a published writer and currently in the process of writing her first non-fiction book: 'A financial self-care guide for women in Aotearoa.'
She'd love to answer any questions you may have around your budgeting and spending habits, strategies for saving, retirement planning and debt. (Don't be shy, but be mindful about what you disclose!)

We aim to have skilled volunteers on hand to help repair a variety of items, from bikes to electronics, clothing to household appliances, and more. Here's what we've got planned:
Bicycle repairs by the expert from Fix ur Ride.
Computer, Electrical & Electronics including, Household Appliances: The appliance specialists from Ecotech Services and Molten Media will be able to assist.
Clothing: Our talented volunteer seamstresses will mend your favourite garments.
Knife & Scissor Sharpening from Selwyn Knife & Blades.
Jewellery
General Repairs: If it's broken, we'll do our best to fix it!

To help us help you, please register for this free event. Provide a brief description of the issue and the item(s) you need repairing. This way, our volunteer repairers can come prepared with the right tools and parts. We would appreciate it if items were brought in no later than 1 PM to give our repairers time to take a look.
