Work finally starts on sprucing up another part of Cathedral Square

Work has finally started on a $2.5 million spruce up of a neglected corner of Christchurch’s Cathedral Square - almost five years after the project was approved.

The southeast corner of the square in front of the Spark Building, Distinction Hotel and Old Government Building will be upgraded over the coming weeks.

Contractors will level the ground, re-lay paving, install additional lighting and street furniture, plant more trees and create landscaped areas that Christchurch City Council described as “rain gardens”.
