If you're lucky, and good, you might be given a couple of cans of paint from your local hardware store, to help you on the way - but that would be the icing on the tip of the social media cake.
Few of us would have the energy or knowhow to turn their reno into a part time side hustle that's both creatively fulfilling, and engaging.
But that's exactly what Moochstyle's Shayden and Georgia Whipps have done - with some pawsome help from their gorgeous dog Frankie. They've been blogging their Christchurch villa reno since they bought their home and Shayden shared their story with us for the final episode of First Rung, our podcast. A first time homeowner and renovator, Shayden is such an inspiring guy to chat with. He makes you want to jump in and give it go. Check out his story and let us know what you think.

Addington Raceway was a sell-out for the annual New Zealand Trotting Cup, the most prestigious and richest harness racing event in the country.
With the event attracting racegoers around Aotearoa, officials agree that this race has a positive impact on the local economy. On the other side, animal rights activists SAFE states that using horses for sport puts immense pressure on a horse's anatomy and that the sport should not be continued.
Do you think horse racing should be banned?

Arbour Bar became popular with Lyttelton locals in post-earthquake Christchurch as a quirky pizza pop-up that surfaced on warm days during summer.
After a three-year hiatus, it is returning as one of the first fully commercial builds in Lyttelton since the quakes. The building includes a completely clear roof and unique plant design as its arborist owners aim to make it feel like a giant glasshouse.
Lyttelton couple Megan and Ra Hancox-Hammer are behind the restaurant with help from Ra’s brother, Mario Fichtner.
The trio hope to open in mid-December after the build, which started at the end of last year, was delayed by Covid-19 and then hampered by heavy rain.

Akaroa’s cumulative rainfall this year is the lowest it has been in a decade, putting extra pressure on the town’s water supply. Its current total rainfall for the year sits at 447 millimetres – less than half the 10-year average of 957mm.
The council says Duvauchelle’s water supply is also under extra pressure, with the streams that supply it running particularly low for November.
Last month Christchurch residents were also urged to start watching their water use as demand on the city’s water supply network ramped up early.
The seasonal outlook from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) indicates the current warm and dry trend is likely to continue until at least the end of the year.

The www.nzflyingdoctors.co.nz... |New Zealand Flying Doctors| are only partly government funded, and it is only with the kindness and generosity of the community that we can continue to deliver this life-saving service. With mission numbers increasing each year, the need is greater than ever before.
Today we are asking you to support missions for neonatal and paediatric patients - with over 70 missions a year for children under 15 years of age, we are focused on getting each and every one of them the right medical care.
Your contribution will help save the lives of New Zealand children!
