Fresh flowers are still being laid in memory of the victims of the Christchurch mosques terror attacks, more than three weeks on from the atrocity.

The thousands of bouquets that garland trees and the pavement outside the Masjid Al Noor, adorn fences near the Linwood mosque and form a carpet of sorrow next to the Botanic Gardens remain a symbol of the city's grief, unity and will to remain unbowed by the tragedy.

Movie star Sam Neill has joined calls to "dismantle the old wreck" of the Christ Church Cathedral and replace it with "a dynamic social hub".

Neill, best know for his roles in hit movies Jurassic Park and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, wrote in an opinion piece for Stuff that a new interfaith hub on the cathedral site would "symbolize a different, current Christchurch" after the March 15 mosque terror attack.

What do you think of Neill's idea? Read the full story by clicking on the link below, then share your thoughts in the comments. (Please write NFP if you don't want your comments published).

A solution for straight through traffic being held up by turning vehicles waiting for pedestrians was rejected last week by the FWH board.
The community board voted 7-2 in favour of doing nothing.
Safety is vitally important for all road users especially children, pedestrians and cyclists.
The recommended solution is a Sharrow lane. A new third lane shared with cyclists and left turning vehicles only.
The benefits were described as:
Less congestion = Better network efficiency and reduced delays
It would significantly improve the Orbiter bus service journey time
Safer pedestrian crossing with tactile pavers
Introduces cycle hooks turns
The possibility of Right Turn green arrows for vehicles
Reduced emissions and better air quality outside of schools
-All up this could have benefits/savings of $1m per year
The disadvantages we were told:
The existing cycle lane will have to share with the sharrow lane traffic turning left
A narrower footpath outside Christ the King - but still wider than the minimum and an additional hand railing could be installed
I was told the board's decision won't go any further, it wouldn't be sent as a Part A to Council for approval/ reconsideration.
I've written to the Mayor, the CCC Chief Executive and the Chair of the ITE committee asking if there is another avenue.
I'm not even sure if we have delegated responsibility over this

The Christchurch-based Super Rugby franchise confirmed on Wednesday the name and imagery from next season was being reviewed, with New Zealand Rugby boss Steve Tew saying the link to knights on horseback was "no longer tenable".

Crusaders chief executive Colin Mansbridge said seeking the views of those directly affected by the shootings at two mosques on March 15 was not fair while the tragedy was still raw. Fifty worshippers were killed and dozens more injured when a gunman opened fire during afternoon prayers.

Do you think the team's name should be changed? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments below (please write NFP if you don't want your comments published).
