Royal is the new owner of Malvern House on Hereford St in central Christchurch. The quake-damaged office building is on the city council’s “Dirty 30” list of sites seen as barriers to the rebuild, and in a location compared by one property owner to a war zone.
Malvern House has sat vacant and deteriorating since the quakes. It has attracted squatters and damage including broken windows, plus the label of the city’s most tagged building.
Its sale could help revitalise the dilapidated strip, where neighbours say their improvement efforts have been thwarted by Malvern House’s condition.

The story of Aotearoa’s art history cannot be told without mentioning Bill Hammond’s work, Arts Minister Carmel Sepuloni said of the exalted artist following his death.
Hammond, one of New Zealand’s leading artists, was a legendary figure in his home in the port town of Lyttelton, just outside Christchurch.
One of his best known works, Fall of Icarus, is displayed at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū.
Were you familiar with Hammond, or his work?

Canterbury has been named the fifth most welcoming region in the world in the Booking.com Traveller Review Awards, while Oamaru, Hokitika and Invercargill have been named the most welcoming towns in NZ. They were followed by Cambridge, Picton, Lake Tekapo, Kerikeri, Palmerston North, Paihia and Twizel.
We'd be really keen to hear your thoughts on this based on your own travels around New Zealand. Do you think Canterbury is NZ's most welcoming region? And are these our most welcoming towns?
Where in NZ have you been made to feel particularly welcome on your travels?
As usual, please put 'NFP' in your comment if you don't want it to be included in an article. Cheers.

Towel rail and bath are both a peachy colour. Bath is 1665 long, 740 wide and approx. 450 deep. Has leather-look headrest and very comfortable arm rests. There is also a 900mm vanity white colour with two doors and three draws down one side, it has an Aakronite vanity top, very good quality in the day. Towel rail has already been disconnected, bath & vanity will be out soon.
Sorry no photos but if you want to have a look just email me or ring on 3848519. No cell phone
