It is Conservation Week, that time each year when we are all asked to reflect on what needs to happen for our native species and biodiversity to survive and flourish.

Momentum Waikato exists to provide long-term financial resourcing solutions for people tackling social and environmental challenges. For conservation, we so far have three endowment funds that each use their investment income to provide grants and other support for local conservation efforts.

All three offer the opportunity to donate towards growing sustainable support systems for the genuine long-term solutions to the conservation challenges across the wider Waikato region.

The Fund for Nature Hauraki-Coromandel, set up by the Predator Free Hauraki Coromandel Community Trust, supports this umbrella group for the two districts’ 100+ conservation groups. See momentumwaikato.nz...

The Waikato Catchment Ecological Enhancement Fund, set up the Waikato Catchment Ecological Enhancement Trust, supports the Trust's grants to conservation work up and down the length of the awa. See momentumwaikato.nz...

The Waikato Hauraki Conservation Fund, set up by Selwyn and Dianne June, is a ‘gap filler’ funder for those things that volunteers need that are not usually covered by other funders. See momentumwaikato.nz...

You can find out more and donate by clicking the links above, or the one below that take you to our communities' funds index page, where you can select the funds you're interested in supporting.

Thanks!

Their music was a mix of Celtic fused with Scandinavian and American, comprising guitars, harp, saxophone, dobro (slide/steel guitar) and voices. Unfortunately only about 20 people attended due, I think, to another event on across the road. However, I understand their next gig is Friday night in Matamata and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of foot-tapping and thought-provoking music! All the best to Across The Great Divide for the rest of their tour. From a new fan who will certainly be there for their next one!

It’s no longer just about saying goodbye to work - it’s now an opportunity to try something new or keep doing what you love. Rather than hanging up their hats, many of today’s retirees are redefining this phase by staying active through part-time jobs, volunteering, or even launching new careers.

Living in a retirement village doesn’t necessarily mean you’re done with work either; rather, it offers the opportunity to explore different activities, pursue long-held passions, and discover new interests. In fact, many people find the lifestyle gives them more freedom to stay engaged and active through work they enjoy.

The Hauraki Coromandel holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many.

Whether it is summer holidays spent at the family bach, exploring secluded islands by boat, or spotting rare and endangered birds while hiking through lush forest, there are many reasons for treasuring this wonderful region.

Our experiences may vary, but one common truth remains: the Coromandel is a place of unparalleled natural beauty, globally recognised as one of New Zealand’s biodiversity hotspots.

But the Coromandel we know, and love is under threat.

Established in 2017, the Predator Free Hauraki Coromandel Community Trust (PFHCCT) has an ambitious goal to scale and link conservation efforts across 286,000 ha from Te Aroha to Moehau. Its Field Support Team of three rangers provide vital practical on the ground support in all aspects of community conservation work to 60+ groups around the region.
