“I am 83 living alone. My neighbours Grant and Annette Phillips were wonderful during the lockdown, getting my shopping and taking me to the dentist when I broke my dentures and had no way of getting them mended. When I needed help in an emergency they were there for me reattaching the connections under my bed which I could not get to.They have taken me to doctors appointments and helped when I needed help in the house after a fall and when my Medic Alarm has been activated.”

Meet Raukura Edwards who shares “I loved the experience of studying, I felt at home at Awanuiārangi.

The lecturers are amazing. Being able to learn online and through block learning was so much more efficient for me as a working Māmā. I was able to work, look after my tamariki and gain a degree. We supported each other to get over the line. I’m studying for a Master’s now and I’m learning so much more. I love it!”

I provide worksheets for the training participants and offer pens to those who need it. While the expectation is for the participants to use the pen during the session and then return it to me, a good number gets taken away each time. I generally give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they have taken it because they really need it. Well, I'm hoping to collect some unused pens from all of you which I can then use for the training sessions and avoid taking on the financial burden of supplying fresh pens all the time. Thanks in advance, folks.
