I’m just letting you know that I’ve set up a LORAWAN gateway in Weymouth and joined it to the THINGS NETWORK here in Auckland. Most of you will be wondering what the heck that is… well it’s a low power, wide area, wireless network that connects things together… mostly with sensors.
What can you do with that? In my case, I am running security sensors that transmit a message to me whenever someone comes onto my property. It also emails me a video of the visitor/intruder.
Other people are using it to connect rain sensors, tracking sensors (such as for cows), temperature and humidity sensors, audio sensors for recording conversations, a sensor for opening and closing a chicken coop at morning and night… there are thousands of potential uses…. most of which haven’t been invented yet!
I’ve set up a gateway for community benefit, which means it will be easier and cheaper for people in Weymouth/Clendon/Manurewa to connect the THINGS NETWORK using my gateway.
The network is relatively new so it will take time for people to figure out how best to use it for their own needs. I got a head start through my younger brother who came to stay with me for Xmas. He’s been developing security equipment that uses LORAWAN and helped protect him from a dangerous stalker back where he now lives. But, actually, I’m still learning how to use it myself.
You can visit www.thethingsnetwork.org... for more information or search google on LORAWAN.

Instead of doing something for herself this New Year (and struggling to keep the resolution), Ingrid is signing up to The Foodbank Project to donate a Small Family Bundle each month because it's a resolution she knows she can keep. Watch Ingrid's video here: www.facebook.com...
