You will need to follow the rules for protecting kauri if you:

- Go into a kauri forest area
- Grow kauri plants/trees
- Have kauri on your property
- Own farm animals/stock that graze in or near a kauri forest

Together we can protect kauri. Find out what you can do

A big thank you to everyone who nominated a small business in this year's Prospa Local Business Hero awards - and who got behind our 11 regional finalists and voted.

And a huge congratulations to Meg Wilson - the founder of PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Shops) across South Waikato! Meg's passion for pets received almost 20% of votes which has seen her walk away with a prize package worth $10,000 to support the work she and her team of volunteers do each day.

Thank you Neighbourly members for rallying around businesses in your community and continuing to show them how valued they are!

For the Kaipātiki Local Board area, it means that we'll be losing around 112 bins from parks, streets and bus stops.🤦‍ It's a crazy situation when many of our bins don't get emptied often enough now.😡
Council staff have suggested removing the bins marked with red dots on the attached map and if we want to save one, we need to sacrifice another...
Local Board members will be giving feedback on this proposal. Please let us know what you think.

Gardeners, nature watchers and ecological restorationists may like to join us in a guided tour of the ridgetop margin of Eskdale Forest, along the mown kikuyu edge of Eskdale Reserve where a white tape cordon marks the Gahnia Grove restoration project.

If you have a ready-made small group, we can schedule an hour to suit you, at a cost of $90 for the group.

Otherwise, email or message us your availability and interests, and we will see what can be organised.

From requests we have had so far, the focus for a tour could be

- efficient and effective control and eradication of environmental weeds without chemicals, especially kikuyu (beyond the mown area, which is controlled by mowing)

- free wild native groundcovers and leafy shrubs

- how to recognise the free native tree seedlings which pop up in your garden or restoration site

Our website has some information and photos of all these, with more to come.
