Hi Neighbours

Our littlest people need your help. Poverty doesn’t start at 5, but until now there’s been no nationwide programme to help preschoolers who are hungry and cold.

KidsCan is changing that. They’re delivering raincoats, shoes and five fresh meals a week to 25 early childhood centres. Attendance is up, and the children are happier and more settled.

"Everyone has the same meal so children don't feel like they have less," Manaia View Kindergarten teacher Kathy Belz says. "It's upholding everyone's mana.”

40 more centres are waiting for help. KidsCan, Stuff and Neighbourly have partnered up to raise enough money to support 1000 more children - and we need 400 more generous Kiwis to hold little hands. To support a child, sign up at KidsCan.org.nz

Junior doctors have voted to strike for five days from 29 April over an employment row. Between 2500 and 3000 Doctors will walk off the job.

Brian from New Lynn

The doctors cancelled a strike planned for 15-18 April over technical problems, before voting on a five-day strike starting 29 April. Union senior advocate David Munro says it's not about pay but about changes the DHBs want to make to the now-expired employment agreement. Union senior advocate David Munro says it's not about pay but about changes the DHBs want to make to the now-expired employment agreement. "The clawbacks that the DHBs have put on the table they are showing no sign at this stage of removing. And that is a simple impact that could see a much swifter move to settlement of this long-running dispute," he said. Mr Munro said Canterbury had been omitted from the strike because the hospital is still under pressure from the March 15 terrorist attack. The Resident Doctors Association announced the result of their latest strike ballot this afternoon.

IRD Filing For Tax Refunds

Did anyone receive a letter from the IRD about changes in there tax refunds? I did. It was saying that if you do get a tax refund from any place you work now, this will be done automatically. It was saying that if you do get a tax refund from any place you work now, this will be done automatically. You will not have to go to a tax refund kiosk or company to get your tax refund done. The IRD are scrapping those companies but now just wanting you to use IRD as their main tax company for any tax owing to you or any tax refund you get. If anyone did, could someone take a photo so we can all see what the changes of the IRD are now doing for future tax refunds and returns.

My question now is, if the IRD now is doing the tax refunds automatically, would you not have to fill out a tax refund form online? Will have to ring them up about this matter sometime soon about the matter anyways?
