A massive upgrade of our kauri bush tracks is on its way!
The Shore Action team is very proud that on Wednesday we allocated over $7 million from the Natural Environment Targeted Rate fund to upgrading bush tracks across Kaipātiki to prevent the spread of kauri dieback. That's about 50% of the total kauri budget available for local board parks.
We've added this to $2 million of funding that we already had allocated, bringing the total to around $9 million!
We have been very hot on protecting our kauri and upgrading tracks this term: we pre-emptively closed bush tracks near kauri; we got council staff to work directly with our restoration volunteer groups to use local knowledge and expertise to identify vulnerable kauri and new track routes; and John Gillon and Danielle Grant advocated directly to the Mayor and councillors for additional funding for the Kaipātiki area, which has now come through.

Below are the parks that will be receiving track upgrades to mitigate against kauri dieback disease:
* Birkenhead War Memorial Park (option 2 plus closure of section 17)
* Chatswood Reserve (option 3 plus upgrade of section 6)
* Chelsea Estate Heritage Park (option 2)
* Eskdale Reserve Network (option 2)
* Fernglen Native Plant Gardens Reserve (option 3)
* Kauri Glen Reserve & Cecil Eady Reserve (option 2)
* Leigh Scenic Reserve & Lynn Reserve (option 3 as requested by the public meeting in Bayview)
* Rangatira Reserve (option 2)
* Soldier's Bay Accessway (option 2)
We also confirmed the indefinite closure of Kauri Park and Muriel Fisher Reserve which have confirmed cases of kauri dieback disease.

This boutique hotel offers a new owner the opportunity to combine a healthy and diverse lifestyle with an interesting and profitable business which naturally scales down during winter, allowing for a holiday.

Each of the five beautifully appointed suites has been subtly themed, providing individual charm as well as comfort. In the heart of the lodge is a spacious, recently renovated farmhouse kitchen enjoying garden and orchard views. A large woodburner with wetback heats the water for a series of radiators around the house, ensuring year-round warmth.

Organically managed, the four-hectare property provides the ability to live from the land with honey, fruit trees, berry patches, vegetable gardens, olives and grazing for sheep, cattle and horses. The small Chardonnay vineyard with a careful selection of clones produces a succulent house wine thoroughly enjoyed by guests from all around the world.

A range of useful ancillary sheds and buildings offers space for projects, hobbies, storage and accommodation for staff. Other facilities on the property include a petanque court, croquet lawn and small gymnasium overlooking the swimming pool.

This extraordinarily diverse and unique lifestyle is ideally located on State Highway One, less than a five-minute drive from central Blenheim and 15 minutes from numerous winery cellar doors, restaurants and the airport.

The Shore Action team is happy to announce that the Kaipātiki Local Board has approved 4 different options to go out for public consultation on the first stage of the Beach Haven Coastal Connection.
The Beach Haven Coastal Connection is envisaged to be a significant recreational route for the Kaipātiki community, providing an integrated connection from Beach Haven Wharf (via Tui Park) to both the Bayview Coastal Walkway and Eskdale Reserve Network.
This will not only be an exciting recreational route, but is really important when other tracks are being closed to protect kauri from dieback disease.

The options that will be going out for consultation for the first stage are:
* Shepherds Park to Tui Park Alignment 1 (excluding spur to Tui Park Beach; within budget)
* Shepherds Park to Tui Park Alignment 2 (exceeds current budget)
* New bridge connections from Shepherds Park to Hellyers Creek Reserve, and from Hellyers Creek Reserve to Kahika Point Reserve (exceeds current budget)
* Do nothing
NOTE: The upgrade of the existing tracks in Shepherds Park and Hellyer's Creek Reserve can be done in addition to any of the proposed options and will be covered by separate funding.

The budget that the Local Board have tagged to this part of the project is $1.5million. Of that, $1.1million must be spent on new or upgraded connections.
