Sick Leave

Julia from Avondale

I have just used all my sick leave all 10 days in one fowl swoop. But it was not me that got sick but a family member who has just had a second stroke. While we are all talking about sick leave it all seems pointless when you have to use your sick leave on your family because there is no other way you can leave your job to care for your family in cases like this. So now if i get sick i will have to use my AL. To me there is no provision for this type of leave, without losing your sick leave. There is no such thing as Domestic Leave it would be really good if there was. Then you could keep your SL for yourself. Especially when for me i had just got my new 10 days sick leave as it was my anniversary in my job. All 20yrs worth in this job. By the way my bosses have been very helpful and accommodating. Not all employers are but i am sure that if they could they would help their employees out. Everyone should be entitled to SL all 10 days of it. Most people would work full time if they could. But lets be fair. It is possible to do five days worth of work in four days and then have the fifth day off! everyone wins. We just need to adopt this way of working. No more sick leave required.

Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.

While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.

And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?

Poll: How important is the ability to book a doctor’s appointment online?

The Doctors

Hi Neighbours
Here at The Doctors we would love to hear how you prefer to book your doctor’s appointments. With busy schedules, different people find different methods easier.

For some, online booking is very convenient, you can make an appointment anytime without needing to wait on the phone. Others still prefer calling the clinic and speaking to a real person, especially if they have specific questions about their visit.

Your feedback helps us understand what works best for our patients and how we can improve access to care.
