For more than 70 days, Save Canal Road Native Trees group have occupied an area of Canal Rd in Avondale.
On Wednesday, veteran protester Steve Abel, who was previously almost hit by one of the trees as it fell down, said up to 200 people were at the site after hearing police were on their way and contractors planned to cut down trees on Wednesday.
About half a dozen people were in the trees and protester Ken Sparks had used duct tape to secure himself to a digger on a truck so it couldn’t get to the site.
Abel said people were chanting and calling on Auckland Council to “step up” and stop the trees from being cut down.

New wider pavements, timber seating, and stonework walls in the finished sections hope to turn the area into a pedestrian-friendly retail boulevard within Takapuna’s town centre.
Construction now begins near Hurstmere Green, the heart of Hurstmere Road that will connect Takapuna’s beach with a future boulevard and new town square being delivered by Panuku Development Auckland by 2021.
North Shore Councillor Richard Hills said it was an exciting milestone to reach for the long-anticipated project.
“The Hurstmere Road transformation is on its way to delivering a greener and more people-friendly space for Takapuna,” he said.
“Not only will the project result in an improved retail destination for locals and visitors, but importantly, ageing infrastructure like the road, mains water and stormwater pipes will receive a much-needed upgrade at the same time.”
Hurstmere Road is now a one-way road for north-bound traffic between Lake Road and Anzac Street with a safer speed limit of 30km. The upgrade will also include a new cycle path. The reduction of vehicle dominance will make it more accessible for both pedestrians and cyclists. South-bound traffic now travels along Anzac Street and Lake Road.
The works include new stormwater rain gardens set in native plantings that will be located along the road. They have been carefully designed to collect rainwater and filter out street pollutants that currently discharge directly into the sea.

The TV works well with Freeview, but it doesn't have it in built - you will need the actual freeview decoder/box.
We've been using it right up until Saturday.
It really is a great TV even though it's heavy.
You will need 2 people to lift it
Great for kids room for games etc ...
P.S. It is listed elsewhere - first in first served

The case is a female child who is epidemiologically linked to an existing case associated with the Botany sub-cluster which has been genomically linked to the Auckland cluster.
The child has been in isolation since August 30 due to being a household contact of a confirmed case.
The case of the healthcare worker from the Auckland quarantine facility who was reported yesterday has been genomically sequenced by ESR. The case is genomically linked to three cases that have been in the quarantine facility that are linked to the Auckland cluster. This reinforces exposure at Jet Park being the most likely route of transmission, but the Public Health Unit continues to investigate exactly how the infection occurred.
The healthcare worker has five household contacts, and all have returned a negative test result. As close contacts they will remain in self-isolation for the full 14-day period and will be retested twice.
Nine staff from the quarantine facility have been identified as close contacts, tested, and all have returned a negative result. They will also remain in self-isolation for the full 14-day period and will be retested.
A deep clean of staff areas in the facility was completed yesterday.
Today there are three people in hospital with Covid-19 – one is in isolation on a ward in Auckland City Hospital. Two are in ICU, at North Shore and Waikato hospitals.
With today’s new case and two additional recovered cases, our total number of active cases is 96.
Of those, 39 are imported cases in MIQ facilities, and 57 are community cases.
Our total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is now 1,447, which is the number we report to the World Health Organization.
Yesterday our laboratories processed 3,573 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 868,042.
