Poll: Do you think the ‘poly-face’ option in the new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video game is culturally insensitive?
The new Tony Hawk video game has come under fire for an act of “cultural colonisation” after it used Māori tā moko as a character customisation option.
Players of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, which was released on Friday, are able to choose from a selection of indigenous-inspired facial tattoos, with one of the options labelled “Poly-face”.
Screenshots of the skateboarding game were posted to Twitter and shared by Pākehā/Māori tattoo artist @dreadconquest in a thread outlining why moko should not be used in this way.

Heartbeats Cardiac Support and Rehab Group at St Heliers Community Centre
Heartbeats, the largest non-profit, community-led cardiac support group in New Zealand is meeting at the St Heliers Community Centre this Thursday, 12th February at 10:00am.
Meetings are informal, friendly and open to ALL heart patients, heart event survivors, their partners, family and whanau.
Having heart disease or facing major heart surgery can be lonely and very frightening. Come along and meet heart people who have all gone through the same thing, or are currently dealing with arrythmias, diabetes, COPD, or very high or low blood pressure.
Heartbeats is not a social group (although we are very social). It is a full support group for education, mental health support and helping with recovery and rehabilitation.
