LIVE DAY | Victorian Hobbies, Games, and Crafts
Join us at Howick Historical Village to discover what the Victorians did on their days off in our live day devoted to hobbies, games and crafts.
Meet costumed villagers crafting up a storm in the parlour of the grand homestead, Puhi Nui! Make a rag rug from fabric scraps or learn about hand-crank sewing.
Churn butter and make your own beeswax candle to take home. Learn the art of bookbinding with members of the Association of Book Crafts. See the blacksmiths at work at the forge and the coal range fired-up. Taste freshly baked bread, hot from the bread oven and visit the sweet shop filled with old-fashioned lollies and fudge!
With craft activities, outdoor games, and performances - Morris dancing at 10:30am & 11:30am bagpipe band at 12pm - there will be lots of fun for everyone! Have brunch or lunch Homestead Café and make a day of it!

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
