Police warn motorists to take extra care as more trucks hit state highway one
Waka Kotahi and Police are urging drivers to take extra care with a surge in trucks heading down state highway one.
More heavy vehicles will be rolling between Auckland and Northport for a week from Friday.
About 800 extra trucks are expected to hit the area as they carry 1200 containers from Northport to Auckland.
The receptacles hail from the ship Constantinos P which was diverted to Northport after delays unloading Christmas cargo in Auckland.
Motorists can expect to see up to 12 trucks every hour leaving Northport from 6 am to midnight for a week.
The Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says people should plan ahead and allow more time for their journey.
