Mayor Phil Goff today announced the temporary closure of libraries and a number of cultural institutions across the city.

The Museum’s Chief Executive Dr David Gaimster said “Auckland Museum is aligned with the Auckland Councils efforts to limit the transmission of the COVID -19 coronavirus. We will close our doors today at 5pm and will review our position regularly as new information from Health Officials comes to hand.”

“This was not an easy decision,” says Gaimster. “Auckland Museum has a role in the community to provide a sense of trust and continuity in times of uncertainty. However for the health and wellbeing for our visitors, our people and communities it has been necessary to make this difficult decision.”

The Museum will continue to operate behind the scenes undertaking the full range of its non-public facing activities such as caring for collections and taonga, research, digital and online initiatives, preparation of exhibitions and development of public programmes, planning and conservation.

Dr. Gaimster says while the Museum building is closed, it can still be visited online.

“Stay in touch with us at aucklandmuseum.com and we’ll keep you informed. Connect with us on our social media channels where we will bring you inspiring stories of our Museum, its collections and people,” he says.

“We don’t know yet when we will be able to re-open our doors, but we look forward to welcoming visitors back when we can,” says Dr. Gaimster.

Hamilton-based brewery Good George Brewing is switching some of its distillery to make hand sanitiser, in response to shortages across the country.
"We've decided to change lanes this week and put our distillery to a different use," the brewery posted on social media.
"We're kicking off trial batches of hand sanitiser so that more Kiwis can stay safe. Wish us luck, how hard can it be?"
Desperate times call for desperate measures and, experiencing the hand sanitiser shortages firsthand when he tried to buy some for the team, Macklow decided the whiskey was going to have to wait.
Today is day two of the first trial batch of hand sanitiser and, all going to plan, Good George expects to have 1000 litres of this suddenly much sought after commodity ready by Monday.
The first batch will be free of charge and Macklow says it will go to everyone in the team, to the Good George pubs, where customers can use it, and to locals in Hamilton who might be in need of sanitiser.
As for the following batches, he is not sure whether it can stay free but hopes to keep it affordable and accessible to anyone who needs it.

Building community is at the heart of what RNB has been working towards over the last year. Our aim is always to provide a fun, friendly, inclusive and safe space for that community to enjoy outdoor recreation.

So we want to provide members and visitors with reassurance that we've been ensuring our procedures are correct and we are keeping our members and visitors safe and protected from Covid-19.

Some of the protocol we have in place includes:

-All bowls equipment will be cleaned with antiseptic spray before and after sessions.

-Spray and wipe cloths will be available for use during hires.

-Disposable gloves are also available- or bring your own.

-We've retrained our stewards in hand washing protocol and stressed to them the importance of staying home if they are feeling unwell.

-The pay-to-play hand stamp system will be replaced by a ticket system.

-Stewards only in the locker/bowls room.

-One rink separation between playing rinks. Maximum of 6 rinks open at one time to allow for social distancing, so might pay to book one in advance to ensure you can play. Bookings can be made here: docs.google.com...

As we won’t be taking a deposit, and to be fair to everyone, rinks will be released 15min after booked time if not paid for at the venue.

Our absolute top priority remains the health, safety and well-being of our visitors, members, and community.

Additionally, all memberships purchased from March 1st will be valid until end of season 2021.

So, here are the additional club rules until further notice:
_______________________________________

1/ If you are feeling unwell or presenting any symptoms of illness – DO NOT ENTER THE VENUE.

2/ On arrival ALL MEMBERS & VISITORS are requested to wash their hands. We will have Hand Sanitiser available outside the match room as soon as possible. Please no "touchers"- shaking hands, high fives etc.

3/ Stewards ONLY in the locker/bowls room.

4/On the greens…

- One rink separation between playing rinks.
- Bowlers should not shake hands before or after the event – a simple “good bowls” statement will suffice;
- Bowlers should not pick up their opponents' or teammates' bowls;
- If any bowler or official is feeling unwell, coughing or sneezing – they should consider withdrawing from local bowls events;
- Bowlers should where possible maintain a distance of 1 meter from other bowlers; and
- Bowlers should wash their hands thoroughly before and after a game.
5/ All bowls equipment will be cleaned with antiseptic spray before and after sessions. Spray and wipe cloths, as well as disposable gloves, will be available for use during hires.

Stay well,
Steve King, Club Secretary
