Kia ora neighbours, now Auckland Anniversary is out the way, schools are starting to open their gates for the new school year - but the cost of back-to-school supplies means some students won't be there when the first bell goes.
Students will be absent at the beginning of term because they are sharing one uniform, a pair of shoes or a bus pass with their siblings, teachers say.
