Make a poppy for your teddy bear to wear while sitting in the window for neighbours to see, or lay a virtual poppy at the Auckland Museum’s online cenotaph. Find out more here and join Aucklanders as we mark Anzac Day in new ways this year.

Deceased cat - black and white

Harriet from Orakei

Sadly another cat hit by a car this morning on Taniwha Street, off west Tamaki road around the 20’s.
Small, black cat with white under chin, belly and feet.
I have taken to glendowie vet, who will hold to find the owner. No microchip or collar. :(

It occurs to me that this is a moment when we can all be part of a solution. Many, many families are not on any wages until the adults can return to work. The country can’t actually support them forever. Even with that support they are struggling. Some aren’t even eligible to be supported if they were earning under the table prior to lockdown. It’s really, really big picture stuff. It’s not happening tomorrow and only if the numbers indicate a sufficient lack of community transmission. But people are scared about what it would mean putting larger groups of children together for care and supervision. Instead of removing options from people who desperately need to be back at work or must be back at work, or our economy needs them to be back at work; let’s problem solve and operate as a cohesive community instead. Are you able to continue to be home with your own children? The PM said we could extend our bubbles a little. How’s about looking around your circle of contacts at who needs to leave their homes to work, extend your bubble to them and offer to take their children when needed. Fewer people then needing schools and ECEs for care and supervision in Level 3. Company for your kids and they can do their distance learning together if applicable. I’m planning to contact my kids’ friends to offer as I know I’m working at home for the next six weeks. Do I fancy the idea of more noise and responsibilities in the house beyond my own family? Not really. But it’ll help them and help get the country going again. I’m not an essential worker but I can help one out. This is the time to make sacrifices and do the right thing if you are in a position to do so. I don’t know the numbers involved but wouldn’t it be awesome if every family who can be home, helped one other family and it then turned out that no centres at any level were needed!

Covid19 Level 3 – What Does That Mean To Me?

Andrea from Eden Terrace

Study the Map and join the dots
Before you get in old Gerty
And venture out onto the tarmac
Because the answer is somewhat murky

You can go for a fish, a swim or a surf
But don’t go jumping off rocks
And should you choose to go tramping

Study the Map and join the dots
Before you get in old Gerty
And venture out onto the tarmac
Because the answer is somewhat murky

You can go for a fish, a swim or a surf
But don’t go jumping off rocks
And should you choose to go tramping
Make sure to wear hole proof socks

A real estate agent can work from home
Though you cannot enter theirs if you can
Visit the office and see for yourself
Purchase your new property off the plan

Children who wish to visit playgrounds
As they have no backyard to play
Will be denied this simple pleasure
As viral bacteria in the soil can stay

You can order a flat white or coffee
And take a walk on the beach with your pooch
Make sure you keep your doggy bags handy
To pick up after your doggy goes loos

We can order online and be happy
As Countdown has opened a shop
That allows us to stay indoors
And wait for our orders to drop

Not much has changed since Level 4
Keep your Tamariki home from school
And please, leave your grandparents alone
For they didn’t raise no fool.

Discarded face masks - are viruses still present?

The street is not an option as a place to discard your face masks. Please research how to discard these masks if wearing one is applicable for you.
