This will pave the way for Kiwi Rail to finish replacing worn rail on the line from January 25 until February 8.
Auckland Transport will be running bus replacements and freight trains will be re-routed through Newmarket.
The Eastern line was closed for four weeks last year while a section of track was fixed between Orakei and Otahuhu.
The focus this time is on replacing rail and sleepers along the Hobson Bay causeway, said Kiwi Rail's chief operating officer Todd Moyle.
Kiwi Rail teams are also continuing to work around the clock to replace rail on the Western line, Moyle said.
“We appreciate it’s frustrating for train users who are returning to work and still facing travel disruptions."
"We’ve been working hard this summer and have made good progress with the required work and are nearing the end of major disruptions. "
The Western line will reopen on February 2.

A leading coronavirus expert is urging the Government to make scanning mandatory at such potential "super-spreader" venues as bars and nightclubs.
The pleas follow figures revealing daily use of the Covid Tracer app has plummeted to a fifth of its peak.
Last Monday, a total of 515,759 scans were recorded nationwide, down from the high of 2.5 million on September 4.
Epidemiologist Dr Michael Baker said the next six months would be a “very dangerous” time for the country with a high risk of an outbreak while waiting for the vaccine roll-out in April.

Wetlands filter, absorb and transform water contaminants, particularly run-off and shallow groundwater from farms, and help reduce the amount of undesirable elements reaching streams, rivers and lakes. However, over 90 per cent of the country's wetlands have been drained in the past 200 years, with North Island regions most affected.
“Wetland areas are also good at capturing carbon, it's a nature-based solution to climate change that is even more effective than tree planting. All up, wetlands have a disproportionately high benefit compared to other ecosystems.
“But New Zealand's wetlands need restoration and looking after; we urge councils to beef up their efforts to support and promote the great work being done by landowners and increase funding for restoration projects.”
