Post WWII Philips 5 Valve Radio
There's a story behind this radio which I acquired in the early 1980s. I bought it because it was identical, (indeed maybe the same radio) that I used to sit in front of as a little boy, with my knees tucked up under my chin, listening to all the popular serials of the day. It was
I don't want to sell it, but I am downsizing and have no room for it.
It's been stored in my attic for several years and overall appears to be in good condition. It was manufactured in either the late 1940s or early 1950s.
I consulted Chat GPT about this radio, after I had turned it on for a minute, or so..
It advised that it could confidently state that power is reaching the heater chain and there were no obvious dead valve signs.
It cautioned against running for an EXTENDED time though, due to the fact that it almost certainly contains wax paper capacitors that almost always leak electrically and old electrolytic capacitors that can fail suddenly and thus damage the radio.
It recommends that the radio NOT BE RUN for an extended time, WITHOUT FIRST HAVING IT CHECKED OVER. So, it is being sold in 'as is' condition.
This attic find will likely suit a valve radio collector/enthusiast and can be picked up from Panmure, Auckland.
