π£Order your birth certificate in person in Auckland, Manukau, Wellington or Christchurch where there are BDM offices. You'll need photo ID and generally have to book an appointment first.
A standard (plain) birth certificate costs $33 and a decorative birth certificate (forest or beach scene) costs $35. You need to pay by debit or credit card. For those who don't have one of these this sometimes means buying a Prezzy Card, which is a Visa gift card and can be used like a credit card.
It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for a birth certificate to be issued.
For more information, including what to do if there is a problem with your order or if you cannot afford the cost of ordering your birth certificate, applying for a birth certificate for someone else, registering the birth of a child, or how to apply for your birth certificate if you were not born in New Zealand, go to:
