📱Call the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) on 0800 22 52 52
✉️Apply by post using the paper application form - BDM93B Request for New Zealand Birth Certificate
🗣Order your birth certificate in person in Auckland, Manukau, Wellington or Christchurch where there are BDM offices. You'll need photo ID and generally have to book an appointment first.
A standard (plain) birth certificate costs $33 and a decorative birth certificate (forest or beach scene) costs $35. You need to pay by debit or credit card. For those who don't have one of these this sometimes means buying a Prezzy Card, which is a Visa gift card and can be used like a credit card.
It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for a birth certificate to be issued.
