2022 is the 182nd anniversary of the Treaty’s signing in Manukau.
Vector Lights for Waitangi Day tells the story of this years’ iwi manaaki (host iwi), Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, and their migration to Tāmaki Makaurau.
The lightshow portrays the pepeha (tribal lineage) origins of the iwi, who travelled from the islands in a waka hourua (double hulled canoe) and made landfall in Aotearoa.

Hokitika has been named the most welcoming town in NZ in Booking.com's 10th annual Traveller Review Awards.
Would be keen to hear from those who live there or who have visited whether they think the town really is exceptionally friendly. What makes it a welcoming place, or otherwise? Were there any cafes, restaurants, shops or other places you received a particularly warm welcome?
Lake Tekapo and Oamaru came in second and third place respectively, followed by Cambridge, Picton, Invercargill, Martinborough, Kerikeri and Palmerston North. Would also love to hear from you if you have thoughts on these places. Please include 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts?

Kia ora Neighbours, A contested decision by politicians on the Upper Harbour Local Board to mow down 8,000 native plants and young trees, could bring a hefty bill. Council staff reject that there was a mistake in the planting, and now there could be a big bill. What do you think ?

Hello kind humans, we are on the search for our new flatmate/s. Could it be you?
Moving date would be 31st Jan 2022.
Location - Avondale, Auckland
Who are we?
I’m Kerry-Leigh, a 32 year old full-time chiropractic student who loves animals, cooking (and more importantly eating) as well as connecting with people in a meaningful way. In my spare time I enjoy taking care of our garden, walking our dog, Lunar, and spending time in nature. My part-time work involves walking dogs, dog-sitting and cooking for a family.
My partner, George, is 28 years old. He works full-time as an Acoustic Engineer (NOT an audio engineer!), and loves music, food, meditation, and nature. In his spare time, he writes and records music, moves his body, walks Lunar with me and reads many books.
Our dog, Lunar, is a 2 and a half year old Maltese x Shih Tzu. She has lots of personality and loves cuddles, licking and being involved in what’s happening.
Who are you?
- You are an open-minded, kind and authentic human.
- You LOVE dogs! (This point is quite important as Lunar will want to spend time with you, and I will have other dogs in the house occasionally).
- You are vegan (or are happy to not cook and eat meat in the house. We are open to someone who is vegetarian).
- You like kids. George and I are planning to start a family in the not-so-distant future.
- You are a friend of the earth. We are doing our best to reduce our carbon footprint, so would ideally like to live with someone who can join us on this mission.
Details about the home:
Located on St George’s Road in Avondale. It’s walking distance to the Avondale town centre, and super well connected to the city with public transport and a cycleway. There’s a great Sunday market that has cheap fruit and veggies, with lots of green spaces nearby. Plus the west coast beaches are not too far away!
You’d have your own sleepout, and bathroom - which you'll have to share with the washing machine 🙂
The above photos of the bedroom and bathroom would be yours. Please note there is no longer a carpet, and it has a polished concrete floor now.
Rent is:
$180/week for single
$250/week for a couple
+ expenses which are roughly $20 per person/week (winter will be a little more due to heating). Ideally we would just split the bills as they come.
You’d have access to the rest of the house, which has a spacious open-plan kitchen living area and large lounge.
Plus there is a big veggie garden!
If this sounds like you, please be in touch and we’ll arrange a meet-up 😊
