Tensions have been escalating on Waiheke Island since construction started gathering pace a few weeks ago.

The developer, Kennedy Point Marina, confirmed it is reviewing the incident, and said protesters had “deliberately putting themselves into the path” of the vessel.

She has recently relocated to Auckland and today is moving with her 5 children from emergency housing to a house provided by Kainga Ora. The family has basic items such as towels and cutlery, but no essential furniture items such as beds, a fridge, washing machine, sofa, tables, chairs etc. Should you have any such items no longer needed but in reasonable condition that you would be happy to donate to ARCC to support this family, please contact ARCC (james@arcc.org.nz or 09 846 0110 - calls from 9am to 5.30pm). Local groups in west Auckland are “bitterly disappointed” after resource consent was granted in relation to the replacement of a water treatment plant. They claim Auckland Council ignored expert advice on the risks for the project to spread kauri dieback disease.

They claim Auckland Council ignored expert advice on the risks for the project to spread kauri dieback disease.

Watercare had applied for resource consent to carry out earthworks and vegetation removal for the upcoming replacement of the Huia Water Treatment Plant.

Titirangi Protection Group’s (TPG) spokeswoman Belynda Groot said “it’s totally wrong” for consent to be given after abundant evidence from kauri dieback and ecology experts at the resource consent hearing in April this year advised against the build.
