“My dad was the face of Auckland’s Hero Parade throughout the 90s and was also the celebrant for one of New Zealand’s first gay marriages,” she said.

Otter had been found dead on the driveway of one of his lifelong friends on the morning of April 4 in Auckland. His daughter said he’d had many health issues in the lead up to his death.

Ramadan is the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the faithful observe the ninth month of the Islamic calendar with prayers and fasting.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise (Fajr) to sunset (Maghreb). Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it's an obligatory practice for all Muslims who can carry out the fast. In addition to abstaining from food and drink during fasting, Ramadan is also a month of disciplining oneself, reflecting and creating positive spiritual habits.

When it was dark, my brothers would pick me up and we would walk the streets... I hated school and wanted to drop out early.

Then I was introduced to a Graeme Dingle Foundation programme for young people that need a boost in life. It helped me build my self-confidence and social skills.

We were paired with a mentor, my mentor Tony believed in me like no one else. Because of him I stayed in school, went to university and now have a full time job.
