ŌTĀHUHU PĀTAKA KAI CAN DRIVE
Pātaka Kai (Free Open Street Pantries is one solution to an immediate local need. We exist to plug the gaps and help families who may not have access to food through things such as food banks, WINZ, and so on. There is no form filling. You simply come along, take what you need and leave what you can.
I am the kaitiaki (care taker) of the Luke Street Pātaka in Ōtāhuhu. I am also part of the admin team for our New Zealand wide movement.
As we get closer to Christmas, our pantry stock has become low and Luke Street is regularly empty. Not only is the need increasing, the donations have slowed.
If you have:
- fruit trees that need to be picked
- Gardens with excess veggies
- canned or packaged goods you no longer want
- goods that are nearing their best before date
If you are:
- a local business that regularly throws out perfectly good food to eat, you just can’t sell it for whatever reason
- a supermarket or dairy with goods nearing best before or damaged packaging
- a manufacturer with seconds
Please get in touch! We will be accepting donations at any time! I can also organise to pick up substantial donations. You can even pop over to the pantry at your convenience.
We request that all substantial donations be given directly to us rather than placed in the pantry. That way we can ration the donation and serve more people in need.
