Kia ora neighbours, after a three-year hiatus due to Covid restrictions, the Auckland Lantern Festival will return in February at a new venue.

The year of the rabbit will be celebrated across the four-day cultural festival, which will be moved to Manukau Sports Bowl for the first time since the festival began in 2000.

It was last held at the Auckland Domain in 2019, but that lease has expired. It was then planned for Auckland Showgrounds in February 2022 but was called off due to Covid.

The free event is the largest cultural festival in the region and will feature hundreds of handmade lanterns displayed throughout the park.

The NZ Compare Awards are back... and we have introduced MOBILE Awards for the first time returning as an in-person celebration with a Gala Awards night hosted by Mike McRoberts in Auckland on December 1st 2022.

Recognising excellence, leadership and innovation in the New Zealand utility sectors, the NZ Compare Awards are back for the 6th year and in response to consumer demand, we have introduced MOBILE Awards for the first time.

As the boundaries between the utility industries continue to blur the organisers have responded to growing demand to increase the categories and industries celebrated by the NZ Compare Awards and will now recognise excellence and achievement within New Zealand’s BROADBAND, ENERGY and MOBILE sectors for the first time.

Award categories are consumer driven and informed by the 300,000 Kiwis who use NZ Compare websites each month. Winning carries real gravitas with the Kiwi consumer and the awards represent an opportunity to be confident in the talent and vision your company has worked so hard towards. This significant event will recognise the companies that provide New Zealanders with the very best products and services across these essential industries.

The NZ Compare Awards are supported by a wide range of companies including Movinghub, Vector Metering, Chorus, realestate.co.nz and Neighbourly. The prestigious awards will recognise the companies that provide New Zealanders with the very best products and services in their industries. With a range of different categories including best home and mobile provider, best customer support, fastest service, best rural provider and best broadband innovation.

Winning an NZ Compare Award depends on a combination of criteria. These include consumer surveys and reviews on the NZ Compare websites and decisions from our expert judging panel.

"Judged by an independent panel of New Zealand experts and presented at our gala awards event, the NZ Compare Awards provide a unique stage on which we recognize and reward the achievements of the New Zealand utility sectors." said Gavin Male, CEO of NZ Compare.

So what do you think? Give a shout out to your favourite utility provider here - not just for doing their job... we want to hear about those that go above and beyond! Who should be a winner?

Afternoon Neighbours!

A new pest control operation will begin in the Hunua Ranges, targetting 21,500 hectares of land.

The aerial operation will begin with a drop of non-toxic bait, to get the pests interested, followed by a drop of baits containing 1080.

Auckland Council's Environmental Services General Manager Rachel Kelleher said the ranges are home to many of New Zealand's threatened species and their focus is on protecting them.

"Many are vulnerable to introduced pests and diseases. However, through this collaborative work, significant gains and successes have been seen in the ranges over the last seven years, with many of our threatened species beginning to bounce back particularly our native kōkako".

The bait is poisonous to dogs, so they should be supervised at all times while in the ranges.

I would like to bring to the attention that the documentary Stuff has decided to show is over dramatised and in many cases defamatory to some if not all,of the people they accused of spreading misinformation.
I am not one of the people defamed in their film, however,I personally know a number of these people, and they have told nothing but the truth....something that can be proven,if Stuff took the time to do their research, however,I've no doubt they have an agenda and a narrative to continue to push.
I'm really disappointed in Stuff.
When the media in NZ is paid by the govt ($125 million the past couple of years) to push their agenda and narrative, you could have been the media to stand up,stand out,and tell the truth,or at least share both sides of the story instead of running with a hit piece.
I've spent many years researching and investigating exactly what these speakers have been saying, before they even started saying them publicly.
I've even interviewed victims that they speak about,so please Stuff,do us all a favour and tell the truth!
Truth is an amazing healer, and after more than two years of not entirely being told the truth,we need a hero to stand up and start telling NZers what the truth is.
You are a platform that can make that change.
