The clifftop track between Mairangi Bay and Murrays Bay has been out of action for over twelve months. This does not quite seem to fit with your own brochure.
www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz...
We do appreciate that a slip of this nature may have required some planning, however this is far too long with nil action. Please advise what is the intended action plan and time-frame here please.
The clifftop walkway was used by several hundred people per day, with the closure we currently need to retreat to a backstreet and then return to the cliff via the next road, this should only have been a temporary measure.
• Also be aware that many are still using the cliff track as although you have fitted temporary fencing this is usually pulled apart and entry gained within a few hours. The reward of the fantastic views etc seems to exceed the risk.
I have recently returned from overseas and have seen similar walks where the engineers seem to accomplished freestanding clifftop tracks in similar circumstances, you have a solid rock base at the bottom of the cliff and this is where the walk should be supported from, not the cliff itself.
We are tired of waiting.

- Don’t turn your back to the waves.
- Always take your lifejacket.
- Tell someone when you’ll be back.
- Don’t drive when you are tired.
And remember if you stray too far, the Choppers can help. In the last 12 months, Auckland’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew 962 missions keeping Kiwis safe.
Stay safe in Chopper Country.
