New National leader Judith Collins says she won't let Ardern get 'away with any nonsense'

"We are very focused on winning," she told media this evening. "It's third time lucky, isn't it?" Ms Collins said, on it being her third leadership bid. The entire caucus followed her in to make the announcement this evening after an emergency meeting, including former leader Simon Bridges and former deputy Paula Bennett. "They’re all extremely valued members of our team," Ms Collins said. Mr Brownlee was previously made campaign chair under previous leader Todd Muller. When asked the difference between her and Jacinda Ardern, Ms Collins listed, "experience, toughness, the ability to make decisions". She added that she respected Ms Ardern, but added, "our team is better than their team and we’re going to take it back". Ms Collins said she was fairly certain Paul Goldsmith would stay as finance spokesperson. Todd Muller announced his resignation as leader this morning, 53 days after rolling Simon Bridges. Ms Collins said she was "devastated" for Todd Muller and was "flabbergasted" by the news this morning. "I feel privileged to have been chosen to lead the National Party at this important time in our history," Ms Collins said today. "My focus as leader will be helping rebuild our communities and dealing with the economic and jobs crisis by getting Kiwis back to work. Earlier today, Judith Collins told media at Auckland airport said she was "leaving everything to the caucus" when asked if she was throwing her hat in the ring as new leader. "I'm feeling really sorry for Todd Muller actually, he's been a delight to work with." Ms Collins recently released a book and told TVNZ1's Q+A that Sir John Key "probably" liked her despite her feeling like he threw her under the bus during the 2014 Oravida and Dirty Politics sagas.

Hi everyone,
I'm working on a travel story for Stuff about the things that have surprised returning Kiwis about New Zealand. If you have recently returned from overseas or know someone who has, it would be great to hear about the things that have stood out for you, for better or for worse. Whether it's to do with the weather, the cost of things, the public transport, the food, the housing, the people or something else entirely, we'd be keen to hear about it. Please remember that your comment may be included in the article, unless you say you don't want it to be. Thank you.

She is part of a local group that petitioned for new school crossings on Takanini School Road. She volunteers at the local school for free maths tuition. She sets a really great example of looking out for her community and makes the world a better place."

K Road music festival 'The Others Way' will go ahead in September following coronavirus uncertainty, organisers have announced.
Now in its sixth year, the Auckland event will take place on Friday, September 11, with the line-up to be announced in the coming weeks.
The festival is organised by the record store Flying Out, which is located just off K Road.
“We had to think very seriously about whether to go ahead with the festival this year, but concluded that the very best way to support bands, our local venues and the hospitality community is to put on a show," said co-founder Matthew Davis.

Your dog might be older (in human years) than you realise

Stacey Reporter from Stuff

Hi neighbours,

Think you know how old your dog is? Think again.

Multiplying by seven isn't accurate, a new study says. Researchers at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine and other leading health institutions across the country have now debunked that common belief.

BREAKING NEWS: In shock announcement, Todd Muller resigns as leader of Opposition, National Party

"It has become clear to me that I am not the best person to be leader of the Opposition and leader of the New Zealand National Party at this critical time for New Zealand," he says. "The role has taken a heavy toll on me personally, and on my family, and this has become untenable from a health perspective." He says he plans to spend some time out of the spotlight with his family to "restore my energy before reconnecting with my community". "I look forward to continuing to serve as a loyal member of the National Party team and Member of Parliament for Bay of Plenty." It comes after the party was rocked by scandal over the last week. National MP Hamish Walker announced he wouldn't stand for re-election after leaking private information of Covid-19 patients, while health spokesperson Michael Woodhouse later admitted he too received the confidential information - although he says he didn't leak it. Mr Muller initially suggested Mr Woodhouse hadn't received the information, before backtracking just one day later and admitting he knew he had. Mr Muller has only been the National Party leader role since May 22, when he rolled then-leader Simon Bridges in a coup. At the time, he told MPs he deserved to take over the leadership as the party wouldn't be able to win with Mr Bridges in charge.
