Since New Zealand plunged into lockdown last week, the laughs for Kiwis have been few and far between.
Apart from Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins’ Freudian slip at an afternoon press conference, where he muddled a message about people stretching their legs and instead said “spread your legs”, the mood of the nation has been heavy and serious.
But as you’d expect, a minister uttering “spread your legs” at a high-profile press conference was music to the ears of meme makers.
Some prefer to take their mind off lockdown by trying something new, such as creating mandalas (abstract art) from things found lying around the house or gathered from nature outside.
Others have been finding ways to keep their community entertained during their lockdown strolls around the neighbourhood, including a return of the hugely popular window teddy bears of 2020.

The body of the newborn baby girl, born at full term, was found at Visy Recycling, in Onehunga, on August 16 after being brought to the centre in a truckload of waste.
Maungakiekie-Tamaki ward councillor Josephine Bartley said she had emailed police on Monday night stating that if the newborn was left unclaimed, the Onehunga community could claim her.

It can be really hard for us to take our minds off the stress of the COVID pandemic and lockdowns. Many people around the world are finding relief from taking time to breath and meditate. Join us for a half hour of gentle yoga stretches, breathwork and meditation. Guaranteed to bring a little joy to your day!
Sessions will be conducted by experienced and qualified Breathwork and Meditation Facilitators of The Art of Living Foundation daily, from Saturday 21st August through to Thursday 30th September 2021.

What is Meditation?

The benefits of meditation are manifold. It is an essential practice for mental hygiene. A calm mind, good concentration, clarity of perception, improvement in communication, blossoming of skills and talents, an unshakable inner strength, healing, the ability to connect to an inner source of energy, relaxation, rejuvenation, and good luck are all natural results of meditating regularly. In today's world where stress catches on faster than the eye can see or the mind can perceive, meditation is no more a luxury. It is a necessity. To be unconditionally happy and to have peace of mind, we need to tap into the power of meditation.

We are making it mandatory at the sorts of places where people gather consistently and in large numbers to ensure that people scan or sign in," Hipkins said. "This means those responsible for businesses and events will need to ensure people keep a record when they visit, either by scanning QR codes with the Covid-19 Tracer App or making a manual record." At the start of this month, scanning had slumped to its lowest level before Wellington's Covid scare. Only 498,723 scans were recorded on the Covid Tracer app which was the lowest number of scans on the app since June 22. There were 21 new Covid-19 community cases in New Zealand today, bringing this outbreak's total to 72.
